one thing

one thing

{photo compliments of Shirley}

I asked God to reveal to me one thing about himself this morning during our quiet time. One thing that, perhaps, I’ve missed up to this point, or one thing that I needed brought to my remembrance… again.

Just one thing, for one thing was all that I needed to buoy me along through another day’s living and another day’s weariness. He gave me that one thing via a few verses I’ve read before. Perhaps they are familiar to you as well:

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am.” (John 14:1-3).

Prepare. The word “hetoimazo” in Greek meaning “to make the necessary preparations, get everything ready.” Further still… “drawn from the oriental custom of sending on before kings on their journeys persons to level the roads and make them passable.” (www.studylight.org)

Oriental custom or not, I think Jesus Christ set the standard in this matter. My God sent his Son ahead of me—heiress to a royal throne—to make level the road in front of me so that I might find my way home to him in order to receive the crown of righteousness that awaits my retrieval. I have royal blood running through my veins, and I have a King who has made the most extraordinary sacrifice on my behalf to insure that I be granted a room and a robe in his kingdom.

One thing.

And my heart is less troubled… my trust more secure.

How I love my Jesus more for giving me his “one thing” today.

It is enough.

He is enough.

Knowing God, and then out of that knowing, leading others to know the same. May you know him more today. As always…

peace for the journey,

  1. I love this post. At work I don't have sound on my computer so I will have to watch your video when I get home.

Thank you so much for what you wrote today. It spoke to me. Jesus prepares the way for me to get to God…He is the Way.

  2. dear elaine,

you spoke "the one thing" i needed to hear
today. we are so worried about one of our
    chicks.

now i am reminded that i just need to trust
Him to care for her and give us His plan.

"fear, be gone in Jesus name!!!"

  3. I loved listening to your intro video today Elaine. It really bore witness with my heart. Many, many years ago I attempted to get a Bible study written entitled "Fulfilling Your Purpose." I have never really been able to get it to the place of being finished. But the subject matter was recognizing that we all only have one purpose in life and that is knowing Jesus Christ! I have set this project aside for right now and am letting God lead me in my purpose of knowing Him more! I believe that at the right time, I will finish it. But I wanted to let you know how much confirmation your post was to me today. Thanks so much!!!!

  4. Hi Elaine, I have a question.
On another blog you made this comment:

"I heard a well-respected editor say one time that he thought blogging was a waste of bandwith (whatever that is…). I took it to mean that he felt our "journaling" (his words, not mine) on-line was pointless. I suppose if no one read our stuff, and we were completely isolated in our world of words, then there would be some merit to his thoughts."

    My question is this:
If you do have a blog that nobody or VERY few people happen upon and read – does that mean it is pointless? Are my thoughts, hopes, dreams, randomness, fears, and joys, etc written in isolation worthless because God has not chosen for people to find and read my blog?

I would love to have hundreds of readers and comments for my silly blog but I don't. Should I quit because that door has not opened to me?

There have been numerous times that I felt my
online 'journaling' was pointless – Maybe I was right?!?!

    Just asking.

I still love your blog and am quite excited for you regarding your book – AND I do realize you were just quoting someone else – NOT your words!!

    Blessings!

  5. Great post, my friend.

    Happy Wednesday!

  8. Love it!!! Just love your one thing. I'm so eager to see with my own eyes what He has prepared for me. Some days the draw of heaven is almost unbearable as I see the pain and sorrow on this earth. Come quickly, Lord Jesus.

  19. God is so good to give us "one thing" day after day when we spend time with Him in His Word. Never ceases to amaze me how fresh and alive it is.

    Have a blessed weekend, Elaine!

  20. This was beautiful. Amazing how God works to make sure we hear His voice. I was thinking about my blog today and I realized maybe not many read it but God does and so that is enough. Thanks for sharing your heart with us.

  21. Love, Love this post….He is Enough….Thanks for posting…

  23. Elaine, the message blessed me but your video message knocked my socks off sister!

I attribute that to the Holy Spirit speaking in and through you and your obedient heart to share even that 'one thing' that we all need to hear and each of us have a different 'one thing' but it's all relevant to the Kingdom.

    I love your heart…
