Black Friday with Me and my Man

Just in case you missed Black Friday shopping, here is a re-cap of my day with my man in tow (what a trooper he was… is). I trust you’ve all had a good week; I hope to be re-aligned with my “pen” in the coming week, thus getting away from all the blah, blah, blahing of video-living! As always…

peace for the journey,

  1. You are a serious shopper!!!! Definitely watched you mellow out as the day went by. Glad you were able to pick up some 'deals'.

Although this is not an "official" Thanksgiving weekend here, I have much to be thankful for today. After a week of uncertainties, God has filled me with His peace. We actually celebrated Thanksgiving on October 31st this year. Bringing dad home from the hospital that day and finally sitting around the table all together as a family once again was the greatest Thanksgiving blessing we could have received.

    With a heart of thanksgiving,
    Joy

  2. I was out too! There is nothing like Black Friday shopping. I love the deals, the rush and the midnight shopping. We were out shopping by 12am and home by 5! LOL!

  3. P.S. I got too excited and forgot to add that I really enjoyed my pre-eating Thanksgiving nap this weekend. 🙂

P.S.S Your husband is too hilarious!

  4. Your video was too fun! My daughter and I went out, but not until late morning. I didn't fight the crowds this year, but still found some great deals.

I had a great thanksgiving. I love being surrounded by family, whether those family members belong to my hubby or me, love them all. I am one blessed girl!

  5. Oh Elaine! You so made me laugh.. so did your hubby! What a sport! 🙂
I am so thankful for my husband… he let me sleep in 2 days in a row! I haven't slept in, well, in I don't know how long!

And after our thanksgiving dinner was done, the kids were relaxing with their grandparents. I dressed up against the cold and hunters (in blaze orange) and took a walk down the road, out at the farm. (though everyone knows there is a road there, its much safer to be in orange.. way too many hunters out!!) The wind was cold, it was uphill all the way back to the farm, but it was so wonderful to pray and enjoy the gray, blustery weather.

Between the extra sleep and the good long walk, I feel almost human today! 🙂
Love you, and thank God for you my friend.
    Heather

  6. Loved the video 🙂 We stayed away from the stores this year on Black Friday but it was fun sharing yours! Thanksgiving was great as we had my son and his family visiting from Idaho – very nice to share this holiday with the grandkids!!

    Hugs,
    Debbie

  7. I must tell you Elaine that I love both your written words and your vlog words. So good.

Thank you so much for ending your video on such a wonderful note. It gives a new meaning to Black Friday.

Hope your Thanksgiving was a good one. We had a great time; went to my in-laws and ate a scrumptuous turkey and dressing and everything else. So glad my mom was with us. It was a true day of thanksgiving.

    Love you lots!

    Sheryl

  8. You and your hubby CRACK ME UP!!! I dare say you'd be a HILARIOUS addition to the already-racous bunch of family members who sat around my Thanksgiving table this year. My Thanksgiving was WONDERFUL, by the way, and the highlight was hosting at my house this year and welcoming most of my family members here. What a joy to get together.

I hope you had a marvelous Thanksgiving as well.

  9. Love your ending illustration about how Jesus brought us into the black. Praise God!

P.S. I REALLY ENJOY spending time with other adults at Thanksgiving 🙂 Love the fun of what you did!

  10. What a great video! I have never been a black friday shopper myself. But, I admire those that are! 🙂
We spent black Friday playing at home with my family this year!!

  11. I just can't do the black Friday thing anymore–not enough stamina in my old age! You're hubby is so great to go with, and apparently really enjoy the shopping. What a fun video.

What I liked about my Thanksgiving was just having a quiet day and a nice meal with hubby and his daughter. Donna

  12. Ha! I beat you up on Black Friday. I believe my alarm was 330am BUT I volunteered to work and not go into that craziness! Kudos to you and your very sweet hubby. I am sure that someone will be very grateful you did!

This year our Thanksgiving was very, very quiet just hubby and I with a small roasted chicken. It was relaxing and lovely.

Joining you in the thankfulness of the Black Friday that really saves!

    Shalom,
    Denise

Just casually mentioning the thanksgiving card I received from my oldest granddaughter that contained the message, "I love you because your skin is fun."

(From the time she could toddle, she has enjoyed pinching the loose skin on the top of my hand. Apparently it is "fun" skin.)

  14. I became tried just watching you on your shopping trip. You and your husband are one of those serious "Black Friday" shoppers. 🙂

This Thanksgiving was special because my son was at the table this year. He usually has to work or he goes to his girlfriend but not this year…new job and no girlfriend.

    love and hugs~Tammy

  15. Enjoyed 'spending the day' with you! Interesting watching the progression of fatigue as the day wore on. I didn't get out in it but did go get the g-kids something from McDonalds, and that wasn't fun!

As for my Thanksgiving, we were all thrilled that Mom and Dad were able to join us this year!

  16. You guys are so funny! I just laughed and laughed at this video.

Something I enjoyed about my Thanksgiving was having all the kidos home with us! I just love being with my family!

  17. P.S. Elaine, I had posted a comment on Facebook similiar along your lines towards the end of your video. Just wanted to let you know that I didn't watch your video until AFTER I posted mine. Didn't want you to think I was "sharing" your ideas as mine!

    Love you!!!

    Lori

  18. 4:31…oh my! until 2:50pm, then a long drive…oh my! with hubby being a SUPER TROOPER, oh yeah!!
I know you were thankful…my thankful came on Thanksgiving Day while serving 'to go' plates for the jailmates and 'shut-ins' in a tiny Alabama town…thanks we could provide for them on a day when they had NO ONE to be with and share thanks. Praying we met their need in a special way…
so enjoyed your video…hubby made me laff, especially when he grunted! what a sport! You are both BLESSED. Prayers you have rested up and enjoying your golden Thanksgiving memories now that we've started down that road to the Savior's arrival 🙂

  19. heehee! We went shopping at midnight (after a full day of spending time with our family on Thansgiving!) and shopped until 7:30ish the next morning.

My hubster was home asleep (as were the kiddos), but my mom, sister and I hit the mall. It was wonderful fun!

    peace,
    Donna

  20. My goodness! I admire your stamina and tenacity to shop in all of the chaos of Black Friday. That's one thing we do not have in common…I avoid it at all costs! I hate crowds, so I won't go unless it's to one specific store for one specific thing…then I'm outta there!

I have had a really good Thanksgiving. I'm especially grateful that I got to see my brother and my sister…both enduring great struggles at this time. I just needed to wrap my arms around them and hold them close. It was truly a blessing to be with our extended family.

Tell Billy and the kids that I was so glad to see them participate in your video. What fun!

    Love to all,
    Beth

  21. P.S. Bill patiently shopped with me yesterday. He and Billy totally rock for hanging in there with us! 🙂

  22. Guess what I did on BF?

    Slept late!

    Without a bit of guilt.

    Until, I watched YOUR video.

    Well, just kidding.

Actually, my darlin' husband got up early to shop and came home with several bargains.

He does most of our Christmas shopping!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal with our family. We even put up the Christmas tree and outside decorations that afternoon.

Seems like it's been forever since we talked. Will call soon.

    Sweet dreams.

  23. Loved your video! My Thanksgiving was such a blessing being close to my family. So fun to see you and your family! Have a great Sunday,
    Lydia

  24. Enjoyed your video! No Black Friday shopping for me – I went on a 5 mile hike instead. That is what I enjoyed the most about my Thanksgiving weekend. Trying to work off those extra calories consumed!

    God Bless You,
    Brenda Giles

  25. You are definitely a more committed shopper than I am — no getting up early for me 🙂

One thing I really enjoyed about our Thanksgiving was getting to see two new additions to our extended family — two baby boys! Also, we just had a good time visiting with Don's family and getting caught up with everyone. A good Thanksgiving…

  26. you're a brave one. I avoid malls and Walmart between thanksgiving and Christmas!

  27. Hey shopper girl friend!!

Loved your shopping v-post! My daughter in law and I along with a close friend were at a packed out mall in Phoenix by 11:30 p.m. Thursday (cleaned up with smokin' deals at Disney Store) dropped off load of toys at home and then on to Walmart by 2:00 a.m. (mercy!) stood in line for $49 portable DVD player (like the one your kids had in the car) until 5 a.m. (my feet were falling off by 4:00) while my girls waited in line for a Barbie jeep and other doorbuster toys!! (Oh, I forgot to mention there was about a million other crazed and purposed parents determined to obtain one of the 12 available barbie jeeps and limited quantities DVD players, but whooo hoooo we got what we came for!!!!!!! On to stand in ANOTHER LINE in the dark outside the Game Stop store next door to Walmart while the girls jammed more toys and Barbie jeep in our car (at this point I was considering driving the Barbie jeep home and letting the girls continue on with our shopping but thought I might get arrested driving a pink barbie jeep down interstate 17!) Worth the wait at Game Stop – got my son the buy 2 games get one free doorbuster, yippee! Gettin my second wind now and dropped second load off at home, grabbed breakfast, coffee and an energy drink (thank God for Zip Fiz!) and on to New York Unlimited for free watch with purchase (tee shirt $10 = free watch, whoo hoo!) and as the sun came up grabbed other smokin' early bird deals until noon at three other stores!!! Didn't do a video (next yr for sure!) but we posted pics on face book…..Had a blast!! Black friday shopping is a family tradition and we always create so many fun and outrageous memories!!! LOL, LOL!

So enjoyed "being" a part of your black Friday!!

Oh, with you on the Family Christian Bookstore specials……I've got a giveaway posted today, hope you'll join in and consider this my comment for the CD – don't have that one and would love it!!!

    Sweet Blessings!
    Jackie

  28. I had a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving surrounded by family. My 6 month old slept through the festivities, so he didn't get to take a bite of the mashed potatoes. 🙁

    I loved the video!

    Rebecca

  29. Hubby and I are talking about giving each other high-speed satelite internet for Christmas this year. If that happens, then I will be able to finally watch your videos! Yes!

    Hoping…..

    Marilyn…in Mississippi

  30. That was so much fun to watch! Especially, as the progression of the day began to take it's toll…it was especially fun because it was you and not me! What a brave and fun hubby you have. Mine is wonderful, but Black Friday will probably never be a part of his wonderful-ness!
Our Thanksgiving was semi-quiet and special. All 6 grandkids were so busy upstairs playing that the grown ups actually were able to sit and talk! A wonderful day.

  31. I left the Black Friday shopping to you younger "girls". I stayed far, far away from the stores while I relished my sanity.

There was a day, though, that I found such shopping a true adventure. With adroit stealth I'd make my way through the crowds, often scoring great bargains in the process.

Thanksgiving blessings to you and yours; and may they linger long into the Christmas season.

    Kathleen

  32. You two are funny!

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! We were all seated at the table (minus one) in our nice clothes, chowing down, when my Rhema bolted into the room naked as a jaybird. She then ran a lap around the table before exiting the room. After a few startled moments, every one burst out laughing. I enjoyed that most about the day – the fact that our Thanksgivings are always unique!

  33. Loved seeing you and your sweet hubby make your way through the day…glad you enjoyed it and were able to get some special deals in exchange for your sacrifice of sleep!

We too (family and a few friends) had some great shopping adventures…ALWAYS fun and memorable…next year, we might just have to take your idea of making a video…classic! Thanksgiving itself was especially sweet this year with Breezy now officially a part of our family. Lots of great old stories and laughter…tried to savor and write the moment forever on my heart.

    Love & blessings,
    Tracy

I loved our adventures in retail-land.

Online or off blogland, Elaine is the same no matter where she is. Blessings to all; its so good to be "in the black" with Christ!

  35. Dear Elaine… I was sitting here catching up on your blog with two videos of you! Enjoying your casual conversation and every day life… and then WHAM! I'll never think of black Friday the same ever again. Thanks for the inspiration.

Much love and prayers… and thanks for keeping Christ close to our hearts… especially during this time of the year.

  36. Elaine:
Loved the video! Especially the ending! I was back home in Arkanasas for Thanksgiving and my Mom and I as is our tradition, went out on Black Friday and had a blast. My sweet husband chauffered us around.

Got to spend a whole wonferful week with my parents and family. It was awesome.

I must say after listening to the end of your video I will never think of Black Friday the same again. Thanks for your precious words.

    Blessings,
    Marita

  37. Hey Sugar, somehow I just came upon this message today June 5th and it blessed me as if it were Nov (black Fri). Loved it and I LOVE the very natural way you looked as that's keeping it real too!

Thank you for the message of OUR LORD and what HE's done for us! Love you.
